Niu Niu is the nickname of Chinese pianist Zhang Shengliang, a prodigy who began studying music at age 3. He made his first public appearance at 6, playing a Mozart sonata and a Chopin etude. After moving to Shanghai at 8, he was invited to attend the Shanghai Conservatory, where he became the youngest student ever enrolled there. While his first teacher was his father, Niu Niu became a student of Hung-Kuan Chen at the New England Conservatory in Boston.

In 2006, he made a significant career move by performing at Wigmore Hall, and the following year he played Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in London, under the direction of Leslie Howard. 

In 2007, at age 9, he signed a contract with EMI, and recorded his debut album, Niu Niu plays Mozart, which was released in 2008. After touring China and Japan, Niu Niu released a recording of Chopin’s etudes, and in 2010, he won the Prix Montblanc for most talented young artist.

In 2012, he recorded an album of Liszt transcriptions for EMI.

1997出生在廈門音樂世家，從小表現出驚人的音樂天賦，三歲跟隨父親張長峰學習鋼琴，六歲首次演奏莫扎 特奏鳴曲與肖邦練習曲，八歲成為上海音樂學院附小破格錄取最年輕的學生。

從十歲至今，牛牛師從陳宏寬教授。繼上海音樂學院以及美國波士頓新英格蘭音樂學院畢業後，2014年獲全額獎學金在茱莉亞音樂學院攻讀學士課程，並於2018年 5月以榮譽生身份畢業。

2007年，牛牛簽約百代唱片公司，是全球四大唱片公司有史以來簽約年齡最小的鋼琴家，共錄製了六個專輯。除了莫扎特、肖邦、李斯特的獨奏作品外，於2014年與指揮卡斯普契克及華沙愛樂樂團（即波蘭國家愛樂樂團）錄製了拉赫曼尼諾夫《第二鋼琴協奏曲》和《帕格尼尼主題狂想曲》，隨即獲邀與樂團同台演出。 2017年年底，牛牛簽約香港環球唱片公司，並在柏林錄製新專輯，於2018年6 月由環球古典品牌Decca Classics發行

牛牛在國際樂壇上創下不少令人驕傲的成績：參與2014/15年演出季的布拉格德伏扎克音樂節，與指揮貝洛拉維克及捷克愛樂樂團合奏德沃夏克鋼琴協奏曲； 2014年3月，與日籍指揮佐渡裕及Super Kids 樂團造訪日本五大城市的主要音樂廳；同年夏季重返日本巡演，包括大阪交響音樂廳與東京三得利音樂廳舉行獨奏會，好評如潮。 2016年8月，牛牛完成了在中國16個城市的巡演。

其他重要歷程包括：於2007年應邀與指揮霍華德合作，在倫敦皇家節日音樂廳演奏蕭斯塔科維契《第一鋼琴協奏曲》，座上貴賓包括查爾斯王子；同年參加中央電視台文化部春節聯歡晚會，全國觀眾目睹他的精湛技藝；2010年10月獲萬寶龍年度青年音樂家大獎， 成為全球獲此殊榮的年紀最小的鋼琴家。

牛牛曾在世界上最顯赫的表演場地獻藝，包括倫敦魏格摩爾音樂廳、上海東方藝術中心、北京國家大劇院（舉行獨奏音樂會最年輕的鋼琴家）。除了經常在中國與日本巡演，曾與蘇黎世室內樂團攜手合作，赴瑞士與法國巡演，也在德國柏林、漢堡、多特蒙德、埃森舉行獨奏會。 2011年，他與佐渡裕合作，在兵庫縣立藝術文化中心演奏拉赫瑪尼諾夫《帕格尼尼主題狂想曲》以及蕭斯達高維契《第一鋼琴協奏曲》。翌年，身為Artemisia基金首位得獎人，在波士頓佐爾頓音樂廳與耶魯音樂學院舉行獨奏會。

2017年，牛牛參與德國與法國舉行的四個夏季音樂節。同年9月份獲邀在金磚論壇晚會上，為出席會議各國元首演奏。

2018/2019年將迎來牛牛全球巡演（包括中國與日本）。
