‘Self-driving’ high-speed railway line linking Beijing Winter Olympics cities nears completion
The Beijing-Zhangjiakou intercity railway is nearing completion ahead of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The new bullet train line connects Beijing and Zhangjiakou – the Games’ twin host cities. According to Chinese state media, it is the world’s first self-driving high- speed railway. Travel time between the two cities has also reportedly been shortened from three hours, seven minutes to only 47 minutes.
京張城際鐵路是中國一條連接北京市與河北省張家口市的城際鐵路，是北京冬奧會的重點交通配套項目。線路正線全長約173.947公里，為雙線客運專線，初步規劃時設車站9座，後增加至10座。該鐵路原定2009年開工，後因鐵道部調整高鐵建設方案，一度擱淺。京張城際鐵路的建設工期為4年6個月，於2019年10月5日啟動聯調聯試，最高試驗速度為385公里/小時，12月3日啟動試運行，於2019年12月30日正式通車，從北京前往張家口的時間從3小時7分壓縮至47分鐘。
